Why Everyone Should Have a Vision Board
By Lee Shi Yun (Serena)
Serena has always liked to see the world in a positive light, despite all the adversities life has to offer. She enjoys a good cup of coffee with a slice of cake while watching a feel-good movie on Netflix. During stressful times, she winds down by immersing herself in the sights and sounds of nature.
Have you ever heard about a vision board and wonder what exactly the hype is about?
Are you extremely ambitious and have always been a believer in the power of goal setting and visualization?
Make a vision board!
In recent years, vision boards have grown immensely in popularity over the last few years. Even some of the world’s most influential people like Deepak Chopra, Oprah Winfrey and Steve Harvey agree: It’s possible to manifest your dreams into reality with a vision board.
So, what is a vision board?
A vision board is essentially a collage of pictures, quotes and words that help you to manifest your goals. Your collage should comprise images or quotes that speak to the future you want to create.
Why should I have a vision board?
Your vision board is the unique embodiment of your life goals, with images and texts that represent the things you want to be, accomplish, or have in your life. Most of us are probably always busy with classes, exams, or work. With all these distractions, it may be easy to lose track of our own goals.
With a vision board, you are:
- Crystal-clear about your visions for the future
- Reinforcing your goals and staying laser-focused
- Telling yourself that you are committed to strive towards your goals, even when you want to throw in the towel
Being such visual beings, having a vision board serves as a reminder of where you’re heading. Vision boarding is an amazing way to get real about your goals and stay motivated to make them a reality. It is also a powerful way to activate the Law of Attraction (https://www.jackcanfield.com/blog/using-the-law-of-attraction/) to help you make your abstract ideas come to fruition!
Great, how do I make a vision board?
#1 Find your tools or materials
Depending on what you prefer, you can opt for:
- A digital vision board template (Canva, or any other photo-editing apps); or
- A real one (poster board, cork board, magnetic whiteboard etc.). You’ll also need some magazines, stickers, markers, tape, or thumbtacks for this.
#2 Think about what matters most to you, at present and in the future
Take a moment to step back and reflect on your current self.
Think about your life in certain aspects, like:
- Relationships
- Career
- Personal Growth
- Health
Next, think about what changes you’d like to make in the future.
Which aspects of your life do you wish to change and how? What do you want to manifest into your life? Who do you want to be in the future?
#3 Find your images or quotes
Once you’ve zeroed in and are clear about what you want to use your vision board for, it’s time to find your images and quotes that represent your goals!
If you’re making a digital vision board, Google is your best friend! Search for images that speak to your goals and put them on your vision board.
If you’re making a real vision board, flip through magazines or newspapers to find images that you can clip and paste on your board. Alternatively, (since many of us don’t have access to printed media anymore) download your images and quotes from Google and print them out!
#4 Create your layout
Once you have all your images and quotes ready, start arranging and rearranging them on your board. Move things around until you feel inspired, just by looking at it. Take your time and most importantly, have fun!
#5 Bring your vision board to life!
Done with your vision board? Find a special place to put it, preferably a place where you can see it frequently throughout the day.
If you made a digital one, make it your phone wallpaper!
Monsta Asia Treehouse Create Your Vision Board
When vision boards first rose to popularity, I didn’t give it a second thought. However, once I saw that Monsta Asia was organizing the Monsta Asia Treehouse Create Your Vision Board, I knew I had to give it a try! My first vision board was an effective reminder of my goals, but it was the process of creating it that forced me to rack my brains and REALLY think about what I want in the future. Subsequently, I reflected on my life and started taking actionable steps towards my goals.
Vision boards are great for envisioning your goals, but they are not magic. In order to truly attract what you desire, you must see it, feel it, embody it, and most importantly, work for it! Good luck!
